August 12, 2010
Happy Summer! I
hope you all are enjoying some extra time with friends and family playing in the
sunshine. Here at St. John Fisher
School we are gearing up for another fantastic year!
As the heat joins us this weekend, it is a great time to come
to campus and think about the cooler days of fall and the beginning of the
school year. This Sunday, from
10:00-12:00 we will have our school uniform exchange where you can purchase
gently used uniform items at a fraction of the price, Bible (grades 3-8) and
assignment notebook sale in our school cafeteria.
Additionally, volunteers from various fundraising efforts will be there
to fill you in on how you can fulfill your Family Volunteer Hour requirement for
the 2010-11 academic year. Finally,
we will welcome our new families and kindergarten class during our picnic on the
lower field from noon till 1:30. See
you there!
Have you figured out your before or after school care needs
for next year? It is not too late to
register for our new extended care program.
I have been working with our director, Ms. Susan Robinson, this summer
and she has great plans for our students that they will not want to miss.
For your convenience, the registration form and September calendar are
attached to this E-mail. Please fill
in the materials and mail or drop them off at the school office by August 27th
to be ready for the first week of school.
Our neighboring community of Multnomah
Village will be holding its annual Multnomah Days celebration on Saturday,
August 21st. St. John
Fisher School will be represented in the parade with the Herrmann boys riding in
a red mini Cooper donated from
Rasmussen Mini.
We welcome students to parade with the car so feel free to meet at 9:30
a.m. @ the Multnomah Post Office for a great time!
I wish you the best as you enjoy the
last weeks of your vacation and we are looking forward to seeing all the
students at our first day of school on Tuesday, September 7th.
Peace,
Merrit Holub
Principal
Welcome SJF New Families,
Please join Fr. Murphy, Principal Holub and your Parent
Teacher Club (PTC) Executive Board Members (just regular parents like you) to
jump-start the new school year:
This Sunday, Aug. 15th,
10-12 for the SJF 2010 Volunteer Fair,
followed by the
2010 SJF New Families Welcome
Lunch & Potluck 12:00-1:30pm at
our school.
At the Volunteer
fair you can learn about ways you can join in and really make exceptional the
experience of your children and all of the SJF children and families, and what
this school, parish and community hold for you, your whole family and friends.
Come and learn about our programs and events which can be of tremendous positive
influence on our children, our broader community; maybe there are ways others
you know can join in.
Then, for our brand-new families (and we're all so excited to meet you) please
come to a Potluck Welcome Lunch (see flyer attached). We'll be 'dining out
back' at the lower field playground. Please come, even if for a brief
appearance, to meet some folks and learn lots in person from Fr. Murphy,
Principal Holub and PTC members. And for those returning families that are
helping with the day, we look forward to seeing you all again and locking arms
together for this fun community event. If you have questions or concerns,
please contact Molly and John Herrmann (PTC President couple) 503-977-2289;
503-490-7694; 503-706-9568.
CALLING ALL ST. JOHN FISHER FAMILIES
The 2010 SJF Auction is fast approaching and we need your help in donating or
procuring items for “Family Bags.” You may remember from past auctions that
these are bags filled with items donated by a family or procured from local
business. The bags should have a theme and be a minimum of $50 total value but
some families have teamed up in the past to donate bags of higher value. Get
creative! Some ideas from 2009 were “family movie night”, “wine tasting bag”, “lego
/ bionicle fun” or “day at the beach.”
If you
are interested in donating a bag with appropriately themed items (Be Creative!)
please see the following Mass Schedule where you can pick a bag up after Mass;
as well as a procurement form that gives you the ability to take the tax
deduction for the items you donate!
When you have filled your bag and have the appropriate form completed you can
drop the bags off in the School copy room during school hours after September 8th.
If before September 8th please contact Holly Witt at 503-593-4550 or
holly@benefitpartnersllc.com
to help arrange pick up!
EXTENDED CARE NEWS
Space is still available in extended care.
My name is Susan Robinson and I am the new director of our before and
after school program. I am
very excited about the upcoming school year. The mission of the extended care
program is to provide your child with a place where they feel safe and happy.
Your child will be able to participate in enriching and educational
activities, as well as, play and relax.
This year we will offer clubs, enrichment, special events along with art and
sports. Homework will be provided
daily in a quiet area. If you
haven’t already registered, please find attached the application form and
September calendar.
HOT LUNCH REMINDER
The hot lunch menus for October, November and December will be available on
www.orderlunches.com
beginning August 1st. The
October menu is available until September 20th.
If you
did not place your September lunch order by the due date, late order forms will
be sent home with your oldest child on the first day of school.
