Middle School Families
Welcome all to a new year in Middle School. We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday. Get a good night’s sleep!
Our fellow teachers at Central Catholic have shared some great ideas for starting a new school year. In planning for the coming year it’s useful to set goals with your child. Goals about academic performance as well as goals for other activities and sports are important. To set goals, it’s helpful to look at past performance as well as future plans. Review with your child the previous year. Decide what went well and what didn’t. Allow your child to share what they would like to continue to do and what they feel they would like to manage differently. Talk about future goals and dreams your child has and recognize that they may be different than yours. Together you can come up with a plan to help your child meet these goals. Starting the year with a clear focus will help your child get off to a good start! Thank you for your partnership with us in your child’s education.

6th Grade Families
Dear 6th Grade Families,
Welcome to the 6th grade! I hope your summer was relaxing and fun. I am hoping that this year is a smooth transition into Middle School for everyone, enabling the remaining three years at SJF to be a success.
As we head into the first week of school, I ask that everyone stay focused on getting enough rest at night and eating a good breakfast before school in order to prepare yourselves for the day. The days will seem a little different than they were in the 5th grade. 6th graders are now responsible for their lockers and will transition to Science class. They will also have the opportunity to take part in the Middle School Elective Program and Outdoor School. I will try my best to post important dates on this webpage but students are also responsible for writing down important dates in their assignment notebooks as well.
This week, homework will be light but I will be assigning Math and Social Studies work. All 6th graders should be ready to report on the required summer reading from the Battle of the Books program and have a book that they are currently reading. We will be reading a novel from the Battle booklist in class (with some occasional overnight reading assignments) in order to complete our novel study. I will explain this in detail at Back to School Night.
I am looking forward to a fun and productive year. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns you have! I am best at responding to email but am happy to call and speak in person or meet with you after school. Meeting before school is a little tough for me but it can be accommodated.
Sincerely,
Cecilia English
